September Meeting - Reading by L. A. McBride

The September KaCSFFS meeting will be held on Saturday, September 20 at 6:30 PM.  We'll be meeting at our usual place, please email bob.j.clark (at) proton.me for the address, or if you'd like the Zoom link.  (Note that I will not be able to attend this month, and will be busy around meeting time, so please plan ahead if you're going to contact me about the location or Zoom link!)

This month, we'll have a reading from author L. A. McBride!

About the author:

L.A. McBride writes urban fantasy with quirky characters, twisty mysteries, and swoon-worthy romance. She lives an hour from Kansas City with her husband and menagerie of pets. If she’s not writing, she's probably either buried in DIY projects or trying to win the devotion of her flock of chickens named after Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters.

About the book:

I’m a shifter with a checkered past and sticky fingers.

I like my new life. I’ve got good friends, cheap barbecue, and weekly karaoke. Sure, I live in an apartment with more deadbolts than functioning windows. And yeah, I earn just enough tips as a mediocre bartender to buy name brand ramen noodles. But I can be as flamboyant and fun as I want—as long as I keep my hands clean.

When a mysterious stranger strolls into my bar with tales of a magical dagger so rare it’s guaranteed to start a bidding war, that itch is back. One last heist…for old times’ sake. At least, that’s what I tell myself.

With a sexy alpha werewolf muscling into my business and a demon after my prize, this job could be my downfall. One wrong move, and the pack of werewolves I ran from eight years ago will come looking for payback. Only this time, they won’t leave me breathing. Hopefully, my survival skills are better than my bartending.

Relic Hunter is the first book in the Riley Cruz series about a goat shifter who steals magical artifacts. If you like fun, fast-paced urban fantasy with quirky characters, found family, and a slow-burn, opposites attract romance, this is the book for you.

Please bring any snacks or beverages that you'd like to share!

Carnival of Souls on YouTube

For those of you who missed Satruday's (March) KaCSFFS meeting, this month's program — the full length film "Carnival of Souls" (196s) — is available on YouTube, at the link below.

Sadly, however, you can't enjoy seeing it in 3D as we did at the meeting.

Comment from David Sooby (of the Laser Rangers film buff group):

I was surprised when Ruth Lichtwardt said this "cult" movie was not filmed in 3D.  Apparently the 3D version was computer generated.  However, the company which did the conversion (Eyepop-3D) did such a good job of it that I thought it had been filmed in 3D using stereo cameras!
