Will Jack Rimes find answers that can keep humanity alive?

Introducing our latest
Reviewers’ Reading Circle Selection:
Momentary Stasis
By P. R. Adams

Free for download as REVIEW COPIES, in multiple formats, to dues-paid KaCSFFS members NOW. We will have a live online interview with the author during the March 18, 2017 KaCSFFS meeting at The Writers Place in Kansas City, MO.

Every reader should know that reviews are extremely important to authors in today's market. We encourage anyone who reads this or any other book they enjoy, to write an honest review!

About the book:
World peace can be deadly.

Humans discover alien technology and start colonizing worlds outside the solar system. Genetic modification produces miracles. Science advances the human condition. And, for the first time in history, the nations of the world have achieved real peace with each other.

But only the elite truly benefit from all the advancements. Most people are still trapped on an Earth ruined by chemical pollution, nuclear accidents, and chaotic weather changes. Rebellious "genies"--genetically engineered servants--cause more harm than good. And global corporations have stripped the idea of nations and freedom of any real meaning.

Sergeant Jack Rimes is no stranger to intrigue. The U.S. Army Special Forces operator lives in a time where every nation on Earth is at peace… but there are plenty of secrets to go around. As corporate greed threatens humanity, genetically engineered humans are making international mayhem of their own.

After his unplanned reassignment to the Intelligence Bureau, Jack is tasked with tracking down a rogue agent implicated in a political assassination. He and his new partner, an old flame, search the globe for answers, but he powers-that-be may not be very interested in keeping humanity alive…

Momentary Stasis is the first book in a provocative series of grimdark military sci-fi novels full of intrigue, horror, and action that unflinchingly explores the impact of technology and unbridled greed on humanity. If you like gritty, flawed protagonists, tech-heavy thrillers, and incredible new worlds, then you’ll love the first installment from P. R. Adams’ new series.

A desperate flight and dueling dragons for October

Reviewers' Reading Circle discusses Blood Songs in October
The Reviewers' Reading Circle live author-interview event returns as our main programming item this month!

Author Julia Mandala will join us live (and in costume!) on our new projection screen via FaceTime, to discuss her book Blood Songs, the featured Reviewers' Reading Circle selection for the month, and also to tell us about the new Yard Dog Press imprint, The Fantasy Writers Asylum, of which she is the editor.

What is Blood Songs about? Rival goddesses Leshan and the dark goddess, Selure, have sent their dragons to battle each other, and Jhett, a young healer with a deadly past, finds herself in the middle of it all.

At first imprisoned in Leshan’s temple (a place that she’s promised, on pain of death, never to leave), Jhett embarks on a perilous journey across the southern desert to save her former lover, Tarik, when she learns that her actions have endangered him.

But assassins and warrior-priests pursue her, and she discovers that the stakes are much higher than Tarik’s life alone. Jhett’s choices will determine the battle's outcome–and the fate of her people.

Blood Songs is available from Yard Dog Press's new imprint, The Fantasy Writers Asylum and Amazon, with a fantastic Kevin Hopkins cover.

All dues-paid KaCSFFS members are eligible to receive free reviewers' copies of Blood Songs. In return, we strongly encourage all of you to read and review the book. As we noted last month, reviews are an author's life-blood, these days.

One of the very best ways you can support an author you admire is to write a short review and post it online.
It helps with rankings, and also makes a book more visible--and it's a real lifeline for indie authors, especially. It's easy, costs you nothing but a little time, and will earn you the author's deep gratitude. For Amazon's guidelines, click here. For GoodReads' guidelines, click here.

You can post a review of Blood Songs here on Amazon. Post one here for GoodReads, and email here to submit your review to the KaCSFFS Blog. When allowed to do so by the website, you might want to consider using these hashtags: #Fantasy; #TheFantasyWritersAsylum; #speculativefiction; #EpicFantasy; #dragons

Haven't written your reviews for last month's selection yet?
It's not too late! Don't leave Keith Shaw hanging, after the great interview he gave us!

Explore the Neworld
Before the September 17 Meeting!
In our ongoing mission to help writers find new audiences and make our meetings more interesting, KaCSFFS is introducing our new Reviewer's Reading Circle Series with a special appearance September 17, 2016 by author/publisher Keith Shaw, via Skype. We plan to use KaCSFFS' recently-acquired projector and screen for this interview.

The regular monthly meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. September 17, 2016 at The Writers Place in Kansas City. The LIVE INTERVIEW with Keith Shaw will start about 7:00 p.m.
This is a break-out session for people interested in discussing the Reviewer's Reading Circle offering of the month, the Middle-Grade and YA-targeted Neworld Papers.

The Reviewer's Readers Circle Series aims to highlight an author each month and offer free review copies to our dues-paid members, with a follow-up discussion session at each meeting, to encourage our members to contribute reviews of these works to Amazon, Goodreads, and other review sites, INCLUDING our own KaCSFFS BLOG.

We are pleased to lead off with a pair of interesting titles that already have garnered some stellar reviews.

Neworld Papers: The Historian's Tale is brimming with action, adventure, and a touch of New Adult romance grounded solidly in thought-provoking science fiction.

Is revealing the truth worth the disruption of a society?

Fallon lives in a peaceful world that has no concept of war, or murder, or even love. It is a society that prohibits histories and pledges itself to "The Service of Today and the Building of Tomorrow."

Just weeks before he reaches adulthood, Fallon is torn from his sheltered life as a ward of the state. He is drawn into a subversive group that needs his secret talents and he quickly becomes a chronicler of discoveries that threaten to destroy the very fabric of Neworld.

Can Fallon handle the weight of the new responsibilities thrust upon him while he navigates relationships with the feisty redhead Aidan and raven-haired beauty Lenore? (synopsis courtesy of iPulpFiction.com)

Neworld Papers: The Warriors' Tale is a sprawling adventure that takes Fallon and his friends from one end of Neworld to the other… and beyond.

Four months after writing The Historian's Tale, Fallon withdraws from day-to-day operations of the Movement as he struggles with a crucial question. If he reveals the cache of weapons in the armory, will it mean the salvation of his people or the end of Neworld?

Meanwhile, Missus Grier and the Movement prepare to break out of their underground confinement and Lenore moves topside to spread the historian's message across the length and breadth of Neworld. (synopsis courtesy of iPulpFiction.com)

Keith Shaw's iPulpFiction publishes original speculative fiction for all ages and offers Popular Publications The Black Mask Pulp Story Reader. These are not magazine reproductions. "iPulpFiction.com is out to preserve the literary legacy of an entire class of American literature. We have created newly edited story manuscripts with restored covers and story headers based upon the original black and white artwork," according to the web page devoted to these editions.
