"An Evening with Neil Gaiman" is set for November 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Lied Center in Lawrence, KS, a program hosted by the Hall Center for the Humanities at KU in Lawrence. Gaiman's appearance is supported by the Hall Family Foundation.

In case you need a refresher about Gaiman, he is a bestselling author "listed in the Dictionary of Literary Biography as one of the top ten living post-modern writers. He is the author of American Gods, The Graveyard Book, Coraline, The Sandman series, and countless other works of prose, poetry, film, journalism, comics, song lyrics, and drama," as the Hall Center announcement notes.

"Gaiman's work has been honored with many awards internationally, including the Newbery and Carnegie Medals. His books and stories have also been honored with 4 Hugos, 2 Nebulas, 1 World Fantasy Award, 4 Bram Stoker Awards, 6 Locus Awards, 2 British SF Awards, 1 British Fantasy Award, 3 Geffens, 1 International Horror Guild Award, and 2 Mythopoeic Awards."

The SF&F Literati just discussed her novel Lagoon on Monday night--and now she's coming to Kansas City! Nnedi Okorafor is coming to town as the 2016 ConQuesT Author Guest of Honor, but she's making a special stop at the library.

Nigerian-American author Nnedi Okorafor will discuss her award winning science fiction and fantasy books at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Kansas City Public Library’s L.H. Bluford Branch, 3050 Prospect Ave.

Okorafor is an award-winning novelist of African-based science fiction, fantasy and magical realism for both children and adults. Born in the United States to two Nigerian immigrant parents, she is known for weaving African culture into creative evocative settings and memorable characters.

Her most recent adult novel, The Book of Phoenix, was released in May 2015 and her next young adult novel, Akata Witch 2:Breaking Kola, is scheduled for release this fall. 

Okorafor’s other novels include her science fiction novel Lagoon (the May selection for our SF&F Literati group was a recent finalist for Best Novel in the British Science Fiction Association Award), Who Fears Death (winner of the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel and Le Prix Imaginales for Best Translated Novel), Akata Witch (an Amazon Best Book of the Year), Zahrah the Windseeker (winner of the Wole Soyinka Prize for African Literature), and The Shadow Speaker (winner of the CBS Parallax Award). Her short story collection KabuKabu was a Publisher’s Weekly Best Book for Fall 2013.
