KaCSFFS Thanksgiving Saturday!

What: Monthly KaCSFFS Meeting
When: Saturday, November 18, 2017, 6:00 p.m. setup
Where: The Writers Place, 3607 Pennsylvania Ave., Kansas City, MO 64111
Food Theme: Thanksgiving Feast

Join our festivities!

Here's part of the 2016 dinner crowd. We'll save a place for you this year, if you'll come!

Please join us on Saturday for the annual KaCSFFS Thanksgiving Feast. It's our best-attended meeting each year (KaXFEN love to eat!),  and it'll be here before you know it.

This year, we're also encouraging like-minded people from sf, fantasy, horror, anime, and similar, speculative-fiction fandoms to come join us at The Writers Place in Kansas City, MO, and bring favorite goodies to share.

The Food
What kind of goodies to share? KaCSFFS provides the turkey, so we do need to know if you're coming! Email us, please, or respond to our Facebook Event. We ask all who come to bring a side or dessert to share potluck-fashion. If there's a special drink you'd like to bring, feel free.

Sides include: Vegetable dishes (except broccoli--sorry! We've learned most KaXFEN won't eat it), bread, potatoes or stuffing, salads or fruit salads, cheese, relish, and suchlike.

Desserts include: Pies, cakes, cookies, tarts, candies, or other such things, to end the meal on a sweet note. Please consider the diabetics among us--consider bringing a sugarless alternative (be sure to label it!).

Glimpses of our "groaning board" and some of our partakers, from our 2015 and 2016 Thanksgiving events. Identifiable, L-R: Ruth Lichtwardt, Ty Gephardt, Paul Burns, Beth Moscato, Marisa Means, David Means.

More snapshots from the Food Department, 2015 edition: Our turkey-carver is James "Dr. Paisley" Murray.

We also hope some
maybe bring along a card game or other tabletop game you think might be fun to play after dinner.

PHOTOS: Many thanks to Jan Gephardt and Ty Gephardt, for the photos used in this post--and to all the KaXFEN who allowed them to take their photos for club communications. Feel free to re-post any you like, but PLEASE include attribution and a link back to this post! Thanks.

2016 KaCSFFS Thanksgiving

The KaCSFFS tradition of having a Thanksgiving dinner together each year was started so no KaXFAN would ever have to go through the season without Thanksgiving dinner (even if it was a bit time-shifted). We made sure of it yet again this year, at The Writers Place. Here are some photos.
We opened with a short business meeting, conducted by Margene Bahm.

While waiting for other diners to take their turn, we enjoyed good conversations.
Feasters began with the drinks and turkey meat.
From there, they moved on to the side dishes.

The dessert table offered a variety to finish things off.

Then everyone dug in. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
After the meal, one group went upstairs to play a tabletop game. Others sat around and chatted, or participated in an informal beer-tasting. A good time was had by all.

Celebrate Thanksgiving with your KaCSFFS friends

What: KaCSFFS Thanksgiving dinner
When: Saturday, November 19, 2016, from 6-9:30 p.m.
Where: The Writers Place, 3607 Pennsylvania Ave., Kansas City, MO 64111
The Writers Place
3607 Pennsylvania Ave, Kansas City, Missouri 64111
Food: KaCSFFS provides turkeys with trimmings: stuffing and gravy, plus tableware. Members bring the rest! Sign up on the KaXFEN list, or email KaCSFFS.

Every year, this is one of our best-attended meetings! Everyone is welcome! We shall feast, pass out membership cards (yes, Jimmy, we said membership cards!), and play tabletop games after the food has been devoured. Bring your favorite games, foods, etc., and join the party!

Here's a glimpse of the 2015 dessert table. Consider bringing something for this year!

Like locusts, we typically leave no leftovers. This was only one of the turkeys in 2015.
There's usually a line, but the line moves pretty fast. It doesn't do, to get between KaXFEN and food.
After supper, let the games begin! We depend on members to bring favorites! Card games are welcome, too!

KaCSFFS Thanksgiving: November 15, 2014

ALERT: The most recent forecast predicts lesser amounts of snow. The meeting WILL BE HELD as scheduled.
Join us for Food and Fun
Who: All KAXFEN
What: The annual KaCSFFS Thanksgiving party and November meeting
When: Saturday, November 15, beginning at 7:00 pm, set-up starts at 6:00.
3607 Pennsylvania Ave., Kansas City, MO 64111
Why: The Thanksgiving meeting is traditionally our largest of the year. In addition to the excellent opportunity to hang out with our friends, we have three excellent reasons to come in 2014:

Chair Massages!
Jesse Thomas
A new feature this year will be an offering of chair massages by licensed massage therapist Jesse Thomas.

Let him help you relax before the holiday rush! He will bring his own massage chair and set up on the landing. Massages are $1 per minute, for a minimum of 10 minutes (He can take cash, checks or credit cards).

Jesse also is an artist who often works with fantasy themes, and he is an enthusiastic Whovian.

Directories!
All dues-paid members who attend the Thanksgiving meeting may pick up a printed copy of the KaCSFFS Directory (just in time for holiday cards, if you send them).

The Board approved a budget for them at the October meeting. This will be the first printed Directory since September 2011. If you can’t attend the November meeting but are a dues-paid member and still want one, you may pick up your copy at a later meeting.

There will literally be one with your name on it.

And of course, the Food!
For the feast, KaCSFFS provides turkey, plates, cups, flatware and napkins.

It’s up to the members to fill in with beverages and side dishes.

Please post your food or beverage selection on the KAXFEN list, so we can make sure there’s a nice variety. Thanks very much.
