It's time for "Fans-Giving" 
The annual KaCSFFS Thanksgiving Dinner
KaCSFFS has a long tradition of getting together to eat a great potluck meal together. We have no official activity planned, other than eating and talking. The club will provide plates, cups, flatware, napkins, etc., plus two turkeys: one smoked and one roasted. We need you, the attendees, to provide suitable and/or traditional side dishes. (See "What to bring" below).
Date: Saturday, November 17, 2018
Time: setup starts at 6 p.m.; eat around 7.
Where: The Writers Place, 3607 Pennsylvania Ave., Kansas City, MO 64111.

We hope to have guests!
We've invited a few loosely-connected fannish groups from the area to join us. We hope to welcome new faces, and maybe new members. Let’s do our best to make any newcomers feel welcome.

What to bring
* If you have a short-playing-time tabletop game or card game you think our members might enjoy, please bring it.
* Folding/portable tables or even square card tables. The Writers Place has plenty of chairs, but they don’t have as many tables as they used to, and most of what they have will be used to hold the food. If you want to have a place to eat, bring a table!

Food to bring
We’re not going to assign salads, vegetables, desserts, and so forth by last name -- we’re going for a genuine “pot luck” meal: whatever people bring is what we’ll eat. However, some suggestions to get your culinary inspiration going might include:
Appetizer tray (remember, if you bring fresh veggies for dipping, long experience tells us KaXFEN don't eat broccoli)
Cranberry sauce/jelly/salad
Mashed potatoes (giblet gravy will be provided)
Dressing
Sweet potato something (whole, candied, pureed, etc.)
Vegetable dishes (corn something, creamed peas, glazed carrots, etc.; and what is Thanksgiving without at least one green bean casserole?)
Rolls of various types, with butter
Pies (Pumpkin, apple, and pecan are traditional, but don’t be afraid to bring something adventurous such as butterscotch, pineapple, or coconut crème), Brownies, cakes, and/or cookies.
A bag or two of ice for drinks, and a cooler to keep it in.
Although there will be a small selection of sodas, you should bring your own favorite beverage(s). David and Marisa probably will bring a gallon or two of un-sweet tea to share.

KaCSFFS Thanksgiving: November 15, 2014

ALERT: The most recent forecast predicts lesser amounts of snow. The meeting WILL BE HELD as scheduled.

Who: All KAXFEN

What: The annual KaCSFFS Thanksgiving party and November meeting 

When: Saturday, November 15, beginning at 7:00 pm, set-up starts at 6:00.

Where:The Writer's Place

Why: The Thanksgiving meeting is traditionally our largest of the year. In addition to the excellent opportunity to hang out with our friends, we have three excellent reasons to come in 2014:

Chair Massages!

A new feature this year will be an offering of chair massages by licensed massage therapist Jesse Thomas. 

Let him help you relax before the holiday rush! He will bring his own massage chair and set up on the landing. Massages are $1 per minute, for a minimum of 10 minutes (He can take cash, checks or credit cards). 

Jesse also is an artist who often works with fantasy themes, and he is an enthusiastic Whovian.

Directories!

All dues-paid members who attend the Thanksgiving meeting may pick up a printed copy of the KaCSFFS Directory (just in time for holiday cards, if you send them). 

The Board approved a budget for them at the October meeting. This will be the first printed Directory since September 2011. If you can’t attend the November meeting but are a dues-paid member and still want one, you may pick up your copy at a later meeting. 

There will literally be one with your name on it.

And of course, the Food!

For the feast, KaCSFFS provides turkey, plates, cups, flatware and napkins. 

It’s up to the members to fill in with beverages and side dishes. 

Please post your food or beverage selection on the KAXFEN list, so we can make sure there’s a nice variety. Thanks very much.

Are you ready to Feast?
OK all of you turkey-hungry KAXFEN, it is that time of year for the annual KaCSFFS Thanksgiving dinner.

We try to get all of the current and past members of our fannish family together to celebrate.

Late news update: "Cards Against Humanity" will be played during the social period at this meeting. if you like this game and have a deck, please bring it and come to play. If you don't know about this game but are curious, here's your chance to learn more if you're interested!

There will be two KaCSFFS turkeys. The rest is pot-luck.

Please let Diana Bailey know how many in your party will be coming, and what type of dish you will be bringing to share. Plastic tableware, napkins, plates, etc. are provided. Drinks are on your own.

Here are categories of foods we need:
Salad: be creative! There's a wide range of possibilities.
Fruit or vegetable tray—but remember: KAXFEN DON'T EAT BROCCOLI. This is the voice of experience speaking.
Potato or rice dish--This includes sweet potatoes, in case you wondered.
Dressing
Gravy--No, it's not automatic with the turkey, this year!
Cranberry anything--from relish to fancy breads. Which brings us to:
Bread/rolls/ butter--a Thanksgiving staple
Desserts--traditional or innovative, KAXFEN never pass up dessert!
